When you see Professor Steiner at Spire

At Spire, Michael sees patients with a range of respiratory symptoms – including breathing difficulties, cough, chest discomfort, snoring and daytime sleepiness. He also assesses patients with a wide range of lung diseases (eg asthma, COPD, lung fibrosis, bronchiectasis)

When you attend a consultation with Michael at Spire, you may need a chest X-ray or a measurement of lung capacity called spirometry. Both of these investigations may be done on the day of the appointment. You may need another test such as CT imaging – which is a scan of your lungs – or detailed lung function testing, sleep studies or cardiac tests. These may need to be organised after your initial assessment.

After your consultation, Michael will write a letter to the GP who referred you or the hospital specialist. You will receive a copy of the letter.

Michael is also seeing patients with post-COVID-19 related issues. Having provided care for patients with COVID from the outset, Michael has also been involved in development of hospital policy and guidance on COVID management. Michael has also led the development of the Leicester hospitals advanced respiratory support team managing severe COVID at Glenfield Hospital.

Since Covid, Michael is offering video and phone consultations. This is expected to happen for some time. He will assess this on a case by case basis.
